A deep red wine that combines refined elegance and power, grown in the Veneto soil

Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
Deep ruby color with purple sparkles. Elegance is its greatest appeal. The alcohol, tannins, and acidity are well balanced, and the aroma and flavor are consistent. The taste is powerful and has a solid presence.

Pairing
Roasted red meat, game (with sauce), aged cheese

Production

Cultivation

The vineyards surrounding the Baran company are located in the S. Ambrogio area of Trebaseleghe, an area traditionally known as "Grion".
The soil is clayey and characterized by a thick layer of Pleistocene paleosols (called "caranto"), a very dense clay soil, typical of the deposits around the Venetian lakes and the alluvial plains of Veneto-Friuli.
Yields are kept low at less than 2kg per tree.

Winemaking

Each variety is vinified and aged separately. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks, and the wine is then aged in barriques for 18 months (about one-third of which are new barrels). Any barrels that do not meet the quality standards are discarded before blending.
After blending, the wine rests in tank for at least one month, then ages in bottle for a further three months.

About the Winery

Balan

Balan

The Balan company was founded in 1962 by a very young Sergio Balan, who thus put to good use the knowledge gained working with his father Giuseppe and his grandfather Jeremiah: both had various agricultural activities, but were known above all as, we would say today, specialized courtiers in the wine sector. During the First World War, Giuseppe, who left for the front, could not take care of the family business. At that time his wife Rosa Stella played a decisive role in the stability of work and the maintenance of relationships built by her husband.
