Murcia is one of Spain's smaller and lesser-known regions. It borders Andalusia to the west, Castilla-La Mancha to the north, Valencia to the east, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.
Murcia has three DOs (Designation of Origin): Yecla in the north, Jumilla just south of it, and Burhas, which covers most of the western half of the province.
In each DO, and throughout the region, powerful, fruit-filled red wines made from Monastrell dominate.
