Murcia

In the south-east of Spain, where a blazing sun rules over dry earth, Murcia is the kingdom of Monastrell — Mourvèdre.

In a punishing climate of barely 300mm of rain a year, old bush vines drive their roots deep into red limestone soils, and in Jumilla and Bullas ungrafted vines that escaped phylloxera are still bearing fruit today.

Concentrated black fruit, aromas of liquorice and herbs, a warmth that seems to hold the sun itself — once written off as a source of mass-produced wine, this is now one of the most talked-about regions in Spain, transformed by growers who understood what those old vines were worth.

Enjoy the poise that lives inside all that power, alongside slow-cooked stews, game and aged cheeses.
