Savoie lies in the mountains of eastern France on the Swiss border, in sight of Mont Blanc.

On steep slopes carved out by glaciers, in limestone soils, indigenous varieties such as Jacquère, Altesse and Mondeuse put down their roots — a fine wine region that the initiated have long kept to themselves.
