Navarra

From the foothills of the Pyrenees down to the fertile plain of the Ebro, Navarra is crossed by the pilgrim road to Santiago — and has been restoring pilgrims with its wine since the Middle Ages.

Three climates meet here — humid Atlantic, cool mountain and warm Mediterranean — and the region wears a remarkable number of faces.

The vivid rosado made from Garnacha is hailed as the finest in Spain; in the higher, cooler north, Tempranillo and Cabernet take on a poised, cool-climate elegance; and the traditional Moscatel ripens into richly perfumed sweet wines.

Piquillo peppers, artichokes from Tudela, white asparagus — honed alongside the vegetable cooking of a region Spain calls its market garden, these wines are supple and refuse almost nothing at the table. Enjoy the generous, endlessly obliging wines that a thousand years of the pilgrim road have shaped.
