This rich, Merlot-based red wine is cultivated in the limestone and clay soils of Saint-Émilion. 1998 was a year of excellent aging potential, showcasing fruit flavors of blackcurrant and plum with nuances of spice, tobacco, and earth. Long aging has mellowed this wine, resulting in a masterpiece that combines power and elegance.

Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
A deep garnet color with brick-red rims that hint at its maturity. From the glass, a complex aroma emerges, reminiscent of black cherry and plum compote, dried rose, violet, truffle, and damp soil. In the mouth, the sweetness of ripe black fruits is combined with nuances of tobacco leaf, cocoa, and spices, all blending with the fine tannins. The acidity is still lively, adding elegance to the rounded body, and the long finish is marked by a lingering minerality and umami. This is a masterpiece that has reached the peak of its maturity, combining power and elegance.

Pairing
Beef fillet Rossini, roast duck breast with berry sauce, aged hard cheese
