Barbera was first cultivated in the hills of Langhe in the early 1900s, during the challenging task of rebuilding vineyards that had been devastated by phylloxera in the region. Due to its hardiness, it adapts well to the unique composition of the environment and soil in this area.

About the Winery

Sordo

Sordo

The Sordo winery was founded in the early 20th century by Giuseppe Sordo and, in the best family tradition, is now run by Giuseppe's grandson, Giorgio Sordo. The winery is located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, at the foot of the Barolo hill. It has a total surface area of over fifty hectares, of which around forty are currently under vine, spread across the Langhe municipalities in some of the best areas for exposure and microclimate. Modern agronomic techniques are followed between the rows of vines, and vineyard management is highly respectful of the environment and the ecosystem, so that the use of chemical fertilisers and herbicides is totally prohibited. In the cellar, modern vinification, bottling and storage facilities are flanked by special ageing rooms, housing over a hundred large oak barrels. This is how, with the strictest respect for local traditions, high quality wines are produced that are rich in flavour and aroma, long-lasting and of the highest quality. The labels that come out of the Sordo winery are the result of a deep love for their land and their vineyards, and the fruit of an unconditional passion for their work and their origins.
