Sordo

[A distinguished house with holdings in eight Barolo crus]

Sordo was founded in the early years of the twentieth century by Giuseppe Sordo, and is run today by his grandson, Giorgio Sordo. The winery stands at the foot of the Barolo hills, in Castiglione Falletto. The estate covers more than 50 hectares in all, some 40 of which are currently under vine.

Its single greatest advantage lies in Barolo itself, where Sordo holds the largest surface area across eight separate crus.

Modern viticultural techniques are used in the vineyards, always with the deepest respect for the environment and its ecosystems: chemical fertilisers and herbicides are banned outright. The cellar houses modern facilities for vinification, bottling and storage, and beside them a dedicated ageing chamber holding more than a hundred large casks.

The result, achieved in strict accordance with local tradition, is high-quality wine of rich flavour and aroma, with a long, lingering finish.

Sordo's wines are the product of a profound affection for their land and their vineyards - the distillation of an unfeigned passion for the work and for the place it comes from.
