Domaine Luneau-Papin
Domaine Luneau-Papin
【Four hundred years of tradition and invention, opening up the possibilities of Muscadet】
Domaine Luneau-Papin lies twenty kilometres from Nantes, on the south bank of the Loire — a distinguished estate whose history reaches back to the seventeenth century.
Pierre Luneau, of the previous generation, was among the first growers to argue that Muscadet could age.
From fresh, invigorating Muscadet to bottles that only come into their own after years in the cellar, the family has always made wine that draws the fullest potential from each terroir.
Today Pierre-Marie Luneau, the ninth generation, leads the effort to express the differences between those terroirs ever more vividly.
The domaine has vines in four villages and has farmed organically since 2013.
Organic practice has since been extended to a number of individual plots as well.
Vinification takes place in the underground tanks traditional to this corner of the Loire.
Once fermentation is finished the wine rests on its lees — the sur lie method — which brings freshness and a generous body alike.
Only fruit with outstanding minerality and abundant acidity can carry that long maturation.
Luneau-Papin's wines appear on the lists of the finest restaurants in the Loire and in Paris.
