History of the Château
Château Pichon Baron was established in the late 17th century and became known as Pichon Baron in 1694. In 1850, the estate was divided into Pichon Baron and Pichon Lalande. Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville built the current Renaissance-style château in 1851. During the 1855 Universal Exposition, it was classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé.
The château is symbolized by the Renaissance-style building constructed by Baron Raoul. In 1987, AXA Millésimes acquired ownership and renovated the château in 1988. Today, its underground cellars house the aging of exceptional wines.
Terroir
The vineyards of Pichon Baron span 75 hectares of gravelly soil, where vines with an average age of 35 years are cultivated. With a strong commitment to environmental preservation, the estate carefully selects grapes and limits production to pursue the highest quality wines.
The vineyard is planted with 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The grapes from the estate’s finest terroir, known as the "Pichon Baron hill," are exclusively used for the
