[The essence of Languedoc, woven from schist, Faugères made from 70-year-old vines]
Château des Adouzes is located 20km north of Pézenas in the Languedoc region. Its proximity to the foothills of the Cévennes mountains allows for cool air to thrive during the summer heat, helping to maintain the vines in excellent condition.
The majority of the 42 hectares of vines are planted to Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Carignan, all over 70 years old. The remainder is made up of Mourvèdre and Syrah, all thriving in the excellent schist terroir. The entire site is within the Faugères AOP.
Faugères is a small appellation highly acclaimed for its red wines. This region is the only one in Languedoc with a homogeneous terroir dominated by schist. This nutrient-poor rock allows water to drain away, forcing the roots of the vines to reach deep underground, into the cracks in the earth's layers in search of water. This unique quality makes the vines highly drought-resistant. Furthermore, the schist absorbs and stores heat during the day and slowly releases it at night, promoting healthy ripening of the grapes.
