Tasting Comments

Tasting Notes
The beautiful golden color gives off an exotic aroma of citrus, pear, and peach.

The rich and powerful body is blended with a stony minerality, leading to a very long finish. While it has a strength comparable to that of Montrachet, at its best, the minerality and refined finesse stand out, creating an overwhelming finish.

Pairing
Flavourful seafood including sea bass, scallops and mussels

About 2021

Hopes for a bountiful 2021 vintage were dashed by the "three terrible days" of April 6, 7, and 8. May was hit by heavy rainfall, and the pressure of mildew and downy mildew was intense, creating conditions reminiscent of 2013 (though fortunately, no hail yet).

However, two weeks of warm, sunny weather in August (“août fait le moût” – August makes the juice) raised expectations for quality once again.

Harvesting began on September 22nd and finished by the 30th. The alcohol content was approximately 12% and the wines were lightly chaptalized. Most of the wines were made in small lots of around two barrels, and all, except for the Grands Epenots 1er Cru Pommard, were vinified individually by appellation (18hl/ha for reds, 27hl/ha for whites).

However, the proportion of whole bunches was significantly reduced in order to thoroughly control the temperature in small vats. By maintaining the appropriate temperature, the cuvaison period was normal, and malolactic fermentation was delayed, so the red wine was bottled several months later than usual.

This has the effect of adding weight to the wine while maintaining its freshness, resulting in a wine that will be a delight for lovers of classic "old-fashioned" Burgundy.

The red is reminiscent of 2000 (unfortunately much less forgiving), and the white is reminiscent of 2001 or 1993.
