This magnificent Médoc masterpiece combines power and elegance. 2005 is one of Bordeaux's greatest vintages, showcasing a deep garnet color and layered aromas of cassis, black cherry, violet, and cigar box. This magnificent wine perfectly balances supple yet precise tannins with concentrated fruit and lively acidity, resulting in a long, lingering finish. It still retains youthful potential and will reveal its true value with further aging.

Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
A deep garnet color with a subtle hint of aging on the rim, the glass reveals concentrated aromas of black fruits such as cassis and blackberry, layered with complex aromas of violet, cedar, pencil lead, cigar box, and subtle hints of truffle and spice.

The palate is classically structured, combining power and elegance. Fine, supple tannins envelop the tongue, while the rich fruit and firm acidity are perfectly balanced. The minerality and deep structure are impressive, and the finish is very long, with notes of black fruit, cocoa, and a hint of tobacco.

This magnificent wine embodies the great vintage of 2005, and still retains youthful potential, but with further aging it will blossom into even greater complexity and harmony.

Pairing
Rossini-style beef fillet, roasted duck breast with berry sauce, aged hard cheese (Comte 24 months or more)

Production

Léoville-Las-Cases boasts an extremely complex terroir. Its base is primarily Quaternary gravel, with underlying soils of sandy, gravelly and clayey soils. Additionally, clay layers of varying depth and compactness are scattered throughout, sometimes even emerging at the surface. The proximity of the Gironde River has contributed to the formation of this diverse soil through sedimentation over a long geological period. Furthermore, the river creates a unique microclimate, favoring early ripening of the grapes and protecting the vineyards from frost. This complex combination of geological factors influences the development of the vines and the composition of the fruit, resulting in a unique terroir that gives each Grand Vin its unique character.
