This is a wine of overwhelming serenity and depth, created by a great master of the Southern Rhone. The 1996 vintage opens up with sensuality and aromas, blending sweet, ripe red fruits with spices, nuances of dead leaves and earth. The palate is surprisingly supple, with a core of minerality and delicate tannins leading to a long finish. This is a wine that is not flashy, but rather one that exudes elegance from within. It is a one-of-a-kind wine that changes its character over time.

Tasting Notes
The aroma that rises from the glass is a subtle blend of dried roses, rose petals, red currants, wild cherries, and other delicate red fruits, along with Earl Grey tea leaves, white pepper, and roasted herbs. The sweet nuances of aging and a slight smoky aroma add depth, while remaining impressively pure without compromising the purity of the fruit.

The palate is filled with amazingly clear fruit, conveying the elegance of aged Grenache. The fruit, acidity, and alcohol are perfectly balanced, resulting in a soft texture that is more "floating" than heavy. The tannins are well-integrated, dense yet silky, and glide effortlessly across the tongue.

The finish is long, with notes of chalky minerals, black tea leaves, licorice, and dried flowers continuing slowly. The finish exudes a sense of quiet elegance rather than strength, with a deep space that draws the drinker's concentration.
