Clos de la Niverdière

【A passion for nature, and a Chinon of striking elegance】

Clos de la Niverdière was founded in 2015 by Belgian-born Martine Budé in Beaumont-en-Véron, at the heart of the Loire.

The domaine works 7.5 hectares of contrasting terroirs within AOP Chinon: 4.5 hectares in the commune of Cravant-les-Coteaux, and 3 hectares at Clos la Niverdière in Beaumont-en-Véron.

Martine learned the management of vineyard and yields from her neighbour Philippe Alliet, known as the "tamer of Cabernet Franc" and rated among the finest growers in Chinon by La Revue du Vin de France.

With remarkable attentiveness she practises meticulous organic viticulture (currently in conversion), protecting her vines through difficult vintages and outbreaks of powdery mildew.

Every fermentation relies on wild yeasts alone and proceeds slowly in truncated conical concrete tanks.

She believes that respecting the terroir, holding on to balance and caring for the ecosystem are what allow a great vineyard to endure.

The soils are tended and the vines worked according to the character of the terroir and the conditions of the year. Picking follows the ripeness of the fruit, plot by plot and entirely by hand, with a first sorting in the vineyard and a second in the cellar before vinification.

That daily vigilance yields wines with a structure into which the tannins are beautifully dissolved.

Aromas of fully ripe red fruit and a gorgeous ruby hue make them a delight to behold: her wines are elegance itself.
