Collection: Chateau Lowerac

France - Bordeaux

[Elegance and serenity of the Medoc, nurtured by the sea and the land]

The history of the Château dates back to the arrival of the Dutch in Bordeaux to develop the wine trade and export. Built near the Gironde estuary and the sea, Château Loirac is a Médoc AOP wine estate in the Médoc region, in the communes of Jaux-d'Ignac and Loirac.

Abandoned after the Second World War, the chateau was taken over by friends passionate about wine and viticulture in 1987. The first vines were planted that year, and since then, the founders have worked hard to improve the production site and facilities, creating a comfortable chateau where great wines are produced, and the property has expanded year by year with the acquisition of new plots.

Currently, the average annual production is 80,000 bottles. All buildings, from the winery to the small sheds, were charmingly renovated in 2015 by local craftsmen in keeping with the Médoc architectural style.

The vineyards are situated on two gravelly hills (gravel and poor soil), 6 km west of the river mouth and 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean, but the proximity of the Gironde to the sea gives the area a uniquely temperate climate.

The influence of the tides, as well as periods of wind and solar activity, favour the establishment of the vineyards. Located in marshy "mattes" (heavy clay soil), the vineyards emerge from a sandy, gravelly beach at an altitude of 14 metres. The quality of the soil and its geographical position ensure the natural drainage necessary for the vines to grow regularly and evenly.

The two seahorses on the coat of arms evoke the Château's location between the sea and an estuary. Hanging in the cellar, the pair reflect the image of a small wine, a symbol of elegance and serenity.
