Bodegas Zuazo Gastón
Bodegas Zuazo Gastón
[The essence of Rioja, where tradition meets innovation]
Based in the village of Oyón in Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón is a family winery that combines a passion handed down through generations with a genuine appetite for innovation.
History and tradition
The story begins in the nineteenth century, and the Zuazo family have poured themselves into winemaking ever since. In 1908 they built a cellar with a stone press, and for decades handled their fruit gently in those traditional surroundings. In 1989 Prudencio Zuazo Gastón set out to fulfil a dream of vinifying his own grapes in his own cellar, and began planning a winery of his own. After a decade of restructuring and expanding the vineyards, Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón was formally born in 2001.
Today the estate farms more than a hundred hectares and works from a 4,000-square-metre winery equipped to the latest standards.
Terroir and philosophy
Zuazo Gastón tends its own vineyards meticulously, with the aim of letting the character of the land come through undisguised in the glass. Reading the soils, the geology and the microclimates of each site, the team uses precise temperature control and maceration techniques to draw out the optimum balance of polyphenols and aromatics from the fruit.
The cellar is fitted with modern equipment throughout, so that traditional practice and contemporary technique work together in the service of quality.
Bodegas Zuazo Gastón blends the traditional and the innovative with real finesse, and captures everything that makes Rioja Alavesa compelling. A long history, careful viticulture, evolving winemaking and the story held in each wine — all of it comes together, and the passion is there in the bottle.
