[Family passion and tradition, in a glass Tenerife can be proud of]

Lorenzo Hernández was born in La Victoria in 1952, and worked the vineyards alongside his mother from childhood. In 1984 he decided to start making wine himself, without any very clear sense of where it might lead.

He began by tending old vines in the Las Riqueras district of El Sauzal, and took the decision to convert them from bush vines to overhead trellis. Two years later Finca El Loro came into production. Today that finca is home to the winery and, at 3.5 hectares, is its largest single vineyard. Training systems have changed here too over the years, but the old vines have always been kept.

Lorenzo grafted in aromatic varieties — Malvasía, Moscatel and Castellana — while retaining the old plantings of Listán Negro, Negramoll and Listán Blanco as the foundation of everything he makes.

In 2013, determined to push the quality of the wines further, he joined DO Tacoronte-Acentejo and submitted to its rigorous standards. It was then that the LoHer name was born.

He now works alongside his daughter Fátima Hernández, a qualified viticulturist.

The LoHer project rests on a simple principle: mechanise the family's traditional craft where it helps, never lose the artisan essence of it, and make wines that speak of their grape varieties and of the land that gave rise to them.
