As its name suggests, "R.D. (Récemment Dégorgé = Recently Disgorged)" refers to a rare, aged vintage that has spent a long time on its lees and was disgorged by hand at the perfect time for drinking. 1995 was an outstanding vintage for white grapes, characterized by a special assemblage with a higher proportion of Chardonnay than usual. Layers of toasted brioche, dried apple, citrus peel, and roasted nuts are underpinned by Bollinger's characteristic Pinot Noir structure, tightened by crisp acidity and just a few grams per liter of Extra Brut. This bottle, which elevates any meal, combines mature complexity with astonishing tension.

Tasting Notes
A rare vintage, embodying the essence of Bollinger, that has reached its peak of maturity after long lees aging.
It has a deep golden color with fine, persistent bubbles. The glass reveals layers of aromas: toasted brioche, freshly baked bread, dried apple, citrus peel, roasted nuts, and a hint of spice.
On the palate, Bollinger's characteristic powerful structure and vinosity (wine-like richness) derived from Pinot Noir unfold, tightened by vibrant acidity and just a few grams per liter of extra brut.
This wine is a harmonious blend of tension and complexity, with a long finish of orchard fruit, almond, and chalky minerality.
1995 was an outstanding vintage for white grapes, and this particular assemblage features a higher proportion of Chardonnay than usual.

Technical Data

Cultivation Information

Bollinger, established in 1829, is one of the few family-owned maisons based in Ay, with approximately 180 hectares of its own vineyards (primarily Grand Cru and Premier Cru). It is known for its robust and complex style, emphasizing Pinot Noir.

Its own vineyards supply over 60% of its total production, which is the minimum standard set by the quality charter established decades ago.

Cultivation methods are sustainable, including grassing, biological pest control, reduced herbicide use, recycling of pruning waste, and promotion of biodiversity through the planting of hedges and fruit trees.

The assemblage of R.D. varies from year to year but typically consists of about 16 parcels (approximately 75% Grand Cru, the remainder Premier Cru), with two-thirds Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay.

Winemaking Information

R.D. is a cuvée that re-emerges from Bollinger's vintage Champagne "La Grande Année," after a much longer period of aging on its lees.

Since 1829, Bollinger has consistently vinified the best crus in oak barrels, using only used barrels that previously held Chardonnay in Burgundy, thus avoiding aromas derived from new oak.

Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in barrels, and secondary fermentation in the bottle is done under cork (secured with an agrafe).

The riddling and disgorgement of vintage cuvées are done by hand, and Bollinger is still the only maison to have its own dedicated cooper.

As its name "R.D. (Récemment Dégorgé = recently disgorged)" suggests, a long aging period of over eight years on the lees imparts aroma, depth, and complexity while preserving freshness. Due to the richness derived from the lees, it is finished with a lower dosage (extra brut) than usual.
