Chapelle-Chambertin is a Grand Cru vineyard of just over 5 hectares adjacent to the Chambertin hill. With shallow topsoil and light soil, it is said to produce the most flamboyant and delicate wine quality among the Chambertin Grand Crus. 2016 was a rare year when Burgundy as a whole saw a significant decrease in yield due to devastating late frosts in April, but the surviving bunches, though small, had high concentration, and the Trappet family's biodynamic cultivation supported the health of the fruit. The reduced yield resulted in a finish that combines density and purity.
Tasting Notes
The appearance is a clear, deep garnet. The aroma has layers of black fruit and red cherry, followed by notes of violet, damp forest floor, and a hint of spice. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine, smooth tannins creating an elegant structure, and the acidity is fresh and vibrant. Mid-palate, nuances of cassis and cacao expand, and the finish is long, with a quiet, lingering mineral aftertaste reflecting the terroir. It can be enjoyed slowly from now until the early 2030s.
