Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots 2018 Domaine Hubert Lignier

"Les Chaffots" is a Premier Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, adjacent to Clos de la Roche. From its clay-rich soil, it produces Pinot Noir with a firm structure and rich fruitiness. The producer is Hubert Lignier. Under the 5th generation owner Romain Lignier, the estate has been practicing organic farming since 2006, employing meticulous winemaking techniques such as hand-picking, careful selection, and gravity-fed bottling. 2018 was a bountiful year with favorable weather from flowering to harvest, resulting in a vintage that stands out for its plumpness derived from perfectly ripe fruit and mellow tannins.

Tasting Notes

The appearance is a bright garnet. The aroma is rich with ripe black cherry, plum compote, leather, and subtle nuances of cacao. On the palate, the fruit's sweetness and volume characteristic of 2018 come to the fore, with very smooth tannins. The acidity is gentle, softly supporting the whole, and the finish leaves a pleasant lingering sweetness of dark berries and a hint of spice. It is already fruity and approachable, enjoyable from a young stage after release. The estimated drinking window is from now until around 2028, making it a vintage suitable for relatively early enjoyment.
