Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, Les Chaffots, adjacent to Clos de la Roche. The 2020 vintage crafted by Hubert Lignier was born from small, concentrated grapes due to record dryness and an early harvest. The fruit, sourced from organically farmed, old-vine plots, delivers concentration and ripeness despite its limited production. In contrast to the 2018 from the same plot, this vintage exhibits a tighter style that opens up earlier.

Tasting Notes

The appearance is a very deep garnet to purplish hue, suggesting high density. Aromas of black fruit compote and cassis liqueur rise, concentrated with nuances of licorice and dried flowers. On the palate, the fruit concentration is high and dense, yet the acidity firmly structures the wine, and the tannins are surprisingly fine-grained and integrated early on. This vintage possesses the early-maturing charm characteristic of 2020, allowing one to enjoy its concentrated fruit and mellow character even when young. The finish is long, with lingering flavors of dark fruit and spice. While it has good potential, it's an early-opening style, so the optimal drinking window is estimated to be from 2026 to 2032.
