Domaine Jean-Baptiste Ponsot is a representative producer in the village of Rully, Côte Chalonnaise. The Premier Cru vineyard "Montpalais" is located on the upper part of the hill, characterized by white, calcareous, pebble-rich soil. It is known for producing white wines with tension and rich minerality. Chardonnay, carefully cultivated using the Guyot method, is aged in barrels for 12 months with approximately 20% new oak. After aging, it is blended for about 3 months in tanks, then bottled after a total of 16 months of aging.
Tasting Notes
Poured into a glass, it reveals a pale gold hue with a pleasant sparkle. The aroma combines flint-like mineral nuances with white flowers, citrus peel, and a subtle hint of toasted oak. On the palate, taut acidity harmonizes with rich fruit flavors, while the sharp minerality derived from the calcareous soil lingers long into the finish. It is ready to drink now but also possesses the potential to age for 10 to 15 years.
