Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts 2019 Domaine Sauzet

Domaine Sauzet (Etienne Sauzet) is a prestigious domaine representative of Puligny-Montrachet. They have practiced organic farming since 2006 and biodynamic farming since 2010. Les Referts is a Premier Cru vineyard located near the border with Meursault, at an altitude of 230-250m. Its clay-limestone soil combines the elegance of Puligny with the structure of Meursault. The 2019 vintage is an excellent vintage that received high praise from critics, balancing richness and acidity.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant pale yellow-gold. Ripe apple, pear, honey, and a subtle spice aroma gently expand. The palate is rounded and full-bodied, showing a more generous texture compared to Combettes, yet with a firm core of acidity. The finish is long, with pleasant lingering flavors of yellow fruit and minerality. While already showcasing its charm, it possesses ample potential to age for another five years or so.

Viticulture & Vinification

• A domaine founded in the early 1900s by Etienne Sauzet (1903-1975), who consolidated the vineyards.
• In 1974, Gérard Boudot married Janine, the founder's granddaughter, and took over management in 1975.
• Due to inheritance division in 1991, Jean-Marc Boillot took one-third of the vineyards, reducing the owned area from approximately 12ha to 9ha. Since then, a négociant business has also been developed.
• Currently managed by the fourth generation, Emilie Boudot and Benoît Riffault.
• Organic farming since 2006, biodynamic farming since 2010.
• After gentle pressing, Premier Cru/Grand Cru wines are aged in barrels with approximately 20-40% new oak.
• Aged on lees for 10-12 months.
• Les Referts is a Premier Cru vineyard located near the border with Meursault, at an altitude of 230-250m, with clay-limestone soil.
