Domaine Coche-Dury, the pinnacle of white Burgundy, is known as "The King of Meursault." Founded in the 1920s, current owner Raphael Coche is the 4th generation, having fully taken over winemaking in 2010. It is a small-scale producer, using only about 70% of its harvest from approximately 9 hectares of vineyards for its own production. Behind its reputation for white wines, it owns a small 0.2-hectare plot of Pinot Noir in Auxey-Duresses, producing a very limited quantity of rare red wine.
Tasting Notes
The color is a slightly pale ruby. The aroma offers gentle notes of red berries, violets, and an underlying hint of undergrowth. On the palate, it has supple and delicate fruit flavors, fine-grained tannins, and the characteristic vibrant acidity of Coche-Dury. The refined craftsmanship cultivated in white winemaking is evident in this red. The finish is elegant and long, with the aroma further opening up after some time post-decantation. It can be enjoyed for several years from now.
