Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
A powerful aroma unfolds with scents of earth, dark plum, chocolate, tobacco, and spice. On the palate, it offers a rich and smooth taste, with seamless, velvety tannins. The firm acidity enhances the balanced and full mouthfeel, leading to a lingering finish that expresses the essence of the terroir crafted by Cathiard Vineyard.

Pairing

Production

The grapes are carefully de-stemmed, and only the best fruit is selected using an optical sorting machine. The grapes are transferred to fermentation tanks using gravity and undergo a cold maceration for up to 5 days. During fermentation, temperature control is maintained, and gentle techniques like pumping over and punching down are applied. After 30 days of aging in tanks, the wine undergoes natural malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels.
Aging: 80% in new French oak barrels, the rest is aged in special vats for 18 months.

About the Winery

Cathiard Vineyard

Cathiard Vineyard

In 1885, Scottish immigrant brothers James and William Rennie purchased land in Napa Valley and planted 60 acres of vineyards spanning the Rutherford and St. Helena AVAs. They built an innovative gravity-flow stone winery influenced by their uncle, Sir John Rennie, known for his work on the construction of London Bridge. However, due to a devastating fire and the spread of phylloxera, the winery closed in 1920.
