Collection: Montepelosso

Italy - Tuscany

Montepeloso is nestled in the hills of Suvereto near Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast - one of the hottest regions in Tuscany. The 15 hectare estate was bought by Swiss-born winemaker Fabio Chiarelotto in 1998 and since then, in order to take full advantage of the potential of the terroir, he has reorganised the vineyard - converting, pruning and even replanting many of the vines. Fabio has devoted himself to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but also to regional varieties such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Marselan, a new variety between Cabernet and Grenache Noir, Colorino and Alicante Bouschet.

He admits about his wine that "it is easy to produce concentrated wines in such a hot climate ... but it is much more difficult to achieve elegance and finesse". In the cellar, he has relatively short macerations, between 14 and 22 days, uses indigenous yeasts during fermentation and matures in French oak barrels.

Today the wines are of a rare elegance, with a lot of freshness for a region that is getting hotter and hotter and that has often favoured powerful and woody wines.
