Clos del Rey
Clos del Rey
【The true terroir of Maury, expressed with energy】
Clos del Rey began some two hundred years ago on family land high above Maury. It is the story of successive generations of the Montagné family enriching a terroir known for its vins doux naturels — a place that still holds a great many other treasures in wine.
Born and raised in Maury, driven by a love of the vine handed down from father to son and by the wish to give the local grape varieties their due, they want drinkers to enjoy the full breadth of that aromatic palette through wines that carry the energy running through this land.
Set at the heart of a protected natural area, the domaine's vineyards cover roughly 12 hectares at an altitude of 300 metres. Carignan and Grenache live gracefully side by side, taking on the geological and natural diversity around them to become wines that stand for the richness of this terroir.
The Maury terroir unfolds across hillsides of marl and black schist. Garrigue and vineyard lend it vivid colour, and it is defined by wind, sun and a singular geology — a geology that makes the place a laboratory without limits and gives its wines a richness of character found nowhere else.
To delight in this ancient land and write one's own story upon it. To tell the journey of the vine from its birth and growth all the way to the bottle. The wines of Clos del Rey exist to reflect the soil, the labour, the plants and the character of the people who shaped them.
