Even with chilled delivery, a rapid change in temperature can cause slight seepage. This does not affect the quality of the wine, and we are unable to offer an exchange or refund in such cases. Every bottle is visually checked before packing.

About the producer

Domaine Schoenheitz

[Pure and delicate flavors born from the finest terroir in Alsace]

Located on the edge of the Alsace Wine Route, Schoenheitz's vineyards are concentrated on the steep slopes of the beautiful Munster Valley, at the gateway to the Vosges Mountains. These slopes are home to some of the highest vineyards in Alsace, in places so steep that they cannot be reached by tractor. The granite soils and challenging growing conditions allow for the purity and finesse of Alsace's noble grape varieties.

In the Middle Ages, the Ville-au-Val vineyards were owned by the Habsburg and Ribeauvillé families and were already renowned for their high quality wines. Located in the heart of the Munster Valley, the Alsatian soil had all the conditions for producing great wines. However, wars brought ruin to the area, and by the end of World War II it was in ruins.

In the 1970s, Henri Schoenheitz Sr., a lover of his native Alsace, set about restoring the beautiful vineyards that were on the verge of disappearing, slowly restoring the Ville-au-Val vineyard to its original appearance. Clearing the soil and replanting the steep slopes was an extremely difficult task, and it is still carried out today by his son Henri Jr., together with his wife Dominique.

In 1980, freshly trained in oenology and viticulture, Dominique and the young Henri Schoenheitz harvested their first grapes. Schoenheitz wine didn't exist until then; it was still part of a cooperative. As the village's only independent winegrowers, the young winemakers quickly established their own style: one that combined sustainable farming with gourmet wines.

In 1995, the "vingt sur vins" recognised 15 years of activity. Since then, numerous awards have followed: Guide Bettane & Desseauve, Guide Hachette, Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Decanter Award. In 2015, for the first time, the winery was included in La Revue du Vin de France's "Guide Vert des meilleurs vins de France" (Guide Vert des meilleurs vins de France), and in 2020, it joined the small group of starred producers.
