Tasting note

Straw yellow in colour with gold highlights. The aroma is rich, fruity and complex with hints of wildflowers, citrus, tropical fruits, sage and rosemary. The palate is dry, fresh and full-bodied with hints of honey.

Winemaking & technical data

The two grape varieties are vinified separately and undergo different ageing periods before bottling. Both varieties undergo a short (4-6 hours) cold soak to extract the aromas, followed by soft pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Naschetta finishes fermentation in stainless steel tanks and is then aged in stainless steel for a further 12 months.

The Chardonnay begins fermentation in stainless steel tanks and then finishes in 225L barriques. After fermentation is complete, the wine is aged on the lees in the same small barrels (30% new) for 12 months, followed by 8 months in bottle.

About this bottle

Of all the cuvées produced by Orlando Abrigo, this one is the most French, being primarily made from Chardonnay. Its color is straw yellow with gold highlights. The aroma is rich, fruity, and complex, with nuances of wildflowers, citrus, tropical fruits, sage, and rosemary. The taste is dry, fresh, and full-bodied, with a hint of honey.

Because these are beverages, we are generally unable to accept returns or exchanges for reasons of personal preference. Please order with care.

Even with chilled delivery, a rapid change in temperature can cause slight seepage. This does not affect the quality of the wine, and we are unable to offer an exchange or refund in such cases. Every bottle is visually checked before packing.

Where the fault is ours, returns and exchanges are accepted within 7 days of delivery.
We are unable to help after that period, so thank you for your understanding.

Return postage

Where the fault is ours — a faulty bottle or the wrong item — we cover the cost of return. Returns and exchanges for reasons of personal preference are not accepted.

About the producer

Orlando Abrigo

Barbaresco in Harmony with Nature, with Peerless Ageing Conditions

The history of Orlando Abrigo begins in 1949, when his grandparents were selling grapes and wine. Orlando lost his father at the age of 13, and the family land was entrusted to sharecroppers. In 1960, having finished his studies, Orlando took up other work while vinifying the sharecroppers’ grapes.

In 1973 he resolved to work his own land and produced his first Barbaresco. In 1981 Barbaresco was awarded DOCG status, and in 1986 his second son Giovanni took charge of the harvest for the first time.

In 1988 Giovanni studied oenology and took over the running of the company from his father. In 1996 he purchased the great Montersino vineyard, and in 2013 he built a new winery. Today Giovanni runs the cantina and owns 21 ha of vineyards.

“TEMPO” project

Bottles from the finest vintages are carefully stored and given the ageing appropriate to each cuvée in the cellar, then re-released to the market with a distinctive shellac capsule (a capsule made of a natural resin produced from insect secretions; unlike a conventional capsule it has no effect on the ageing of the wine, and it also helps the wine to mature beautifully over time).

The aim is to show how the finest wines they make evolve when they are properly aged in ideal conditions.

At present Barbaresco Montersino and Barbaresco Riserva Rongallio are part of the TEMPO project, both re-released ten years after they first reached the market. Langhe Bianco Tre Plus is re-released after five years.
