Domaine Denizot

Domaine Denizot

[Sancerre tradition and youthful passion — a young couple's undertaking]

Domaine Denizot holds vines around the villages of Verdigny and Chavignol.

Most of them sit on caillottes, the stony limestone soils that give a Sauvignon Blanc at once elegant, powerful and full of fruit.

A portion lies on clay-limestone, where a fruity, refined Pinot Noir is grown.

The estate has passed down through six generations of the Denizot family and is now in the hands of a young couple, Thibault and Jennifer.

These two passionate vignerons refine their work with every vintage and have steadily raised the domaine's standing.

Their methods follow the traditions of Sancerre. Each parcel is vinified separately and the details are adjusted year by year.

Experience matters, but so does instinct — and here it is the key to everything.

Thibault dreamed of becoming a vigneron from childhood. He studied at the wine school in Beaune, where he met a good many gifted and passionate young growers.

Together they shared what they knew and talked about what they hoped to build.

Having grown up among the vines, of course, viticulture was already in his blood.

With his wife Jennifer he pursues quality without compromise. The work is demanding, but this young couple live and breathe Sancerre, attentive to the smallest detail and respectful of the natural world.

It is an admirable way of working, and it lifts the quality of their wines a little further every year.

They farm 18.5 hectares, 75% planted to Sauvignon Blanc and 25% to Pinot Noir.
