This cuvée, named Pies Negro, is made from 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. It is dedicated to honoring tradition and paying homage to the footsteps of the former grape stompers, a practice that is still carried on at this winery today. This method, combined with the vineyard’s altitude, emphasizes the freshness and distinct characteristics of the region. It is the perfect wine for those looking to explore Tempranillo and Rediscover Rioja.
Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
With a violet-tinged cherry color, this wine showcases a very fruity character. The balance between the juicy fruitiness and the tannins from the fruit skins creates a candy-like taste that doesn’t feel overly complex. A subtle bitterness adds to the smooth, drinkable quality. The aroma combines blackberry, licorice, and a floral hint of violet. On the palate, it expands, offering a lactic, well-balanced profile, overall sweet and captivating.

Pairing
Meat and rice, Iberian cold cuts, duck breast

Production

Viticulture
This village wine is made from grapes harvested in the town of Ábalos, located at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. The vineyard, with its limestone soil, was first planted in the 1920s, showing great respect for the environment. Situated at an altitude of 600 meters, it beautifully expresses the characteristics of the Atlantic.

Vinification
The hand-harvested grapes are de-stemmed, and the must is crushed to allow fermentation. A small portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels, and the subsequent 12 months of aging occur in barrels of varying ages to preserve the primary hues of the grapes.
