This Merlot-based red wine, born from the clay-gravel terroir of the southeast, is perfectly ripe and meticulously vinified, resulting in deep fruitiness, silky tannins, and an elegant finish. The 2016 vintage brings a harmonious blend of concentration, balance, and complex aromas, combining the potential for long-term aging with the ability to enjoy it now, making it a wine that truly embodies the essence of Pomerol.

Owning & Enjoying

Tasting notes
Deep garnet color.

The aroma that rises from the glass is a blend of ripe black cherry and cassis with vanilla, mocha, violet, and subtle hints of truffle and spice, giving it the depth that is characteristic of Pomerol.

In the mouth, the concentrated fruitiness and fine tannins blend together to create a moist texture.

Rich minerals and acidity provide structure, while the long finish offers nuances of dark chocolate and cigar box.

It can be enjoyed young, but has the potential to develop even greater complexity and elegance with age.

Pairing
Roasted beef fillet with truffle sauce, roasted duck breast with foie gras and potato gratin, and herb-crusted lamb rack with ratatouille

Production

It is brought in in small 3 hl buckets to the gravity-fed fermentation room.
Each section was poured into 22 newly constructed truncated conical concrete tanks.
Alcoholic fermentation is controlled at 26-30°C depending on the lot's potential and extraction target, and the fermentation period is 3-5 weeks in total.
The best lots of Merlot and Cabernet Franc underwent malolactic fermentation in new barrels.

Aging
60% of the first wine is aged for 18 months in new barrels (from seven different barrel manufacturers).

About the Winery

Château Beauregard

Château Beauregard

Chateau Beauregard is a historic winery located in the Pomerol region on the right bank of Bordeaux. It was founded in the 11th century by the Knights of St. John. The Knights used the area as a place of lodging for pilgrims at the time, and traces of this can still be seen in the current Chateau emblem. In the 18th century, the estate switched from farming, which produced a variety of crops, to winemaking, specializing in grape cultivation, and established itself as a prestigious chateau in Pomerol. The current chateau was built during the Napoleonic era and is a beautiful Gironde style building designed by a disciple of Victor Louis. In 2014, the Moulin and Cathiard families acquired ownership and carried out extensive renovations, including the addition of new gravity-fed fermentation facilities and temperature-controlled concrete fermentation tanks, allowing for precise fermentation of each plot. The 17.5 hectare vineyard is composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with an average vine age of 35 years. In 2016, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon was also planted, and there are high hopes for future blends. The wine offers aromas of ripe plum and flowers, subtle smoky oak spice and earthy notes, with elegant tannins and a rounded finish. Château Beauregard also practices environmentally friendly organic farming methods and uses preventative measures to protect the vines and fruit during the summer rains. Combining Pomerol tradition with innovation, Château Beauregard offers wines that combine elegance and power, making it an attractive choice for wine lovers.
