Château Beauregard

Château Beauregard is a historic property in Pomerol, on Bordeaux's Right Bank, founded in the eleventh century by the Knights of Saint John. The order used the site as a resting place for pilgrims, and the memory of that role survives in the château's emblem to this day.

During the eighteenth century the estate turned away from mixed farming to concentrate on the vine, establishing itself as one of the great names of Pomerol. The château standing today dates from the Napoleonic era, a handsome building in the Girondine style designed by a pupil of Victor Louis.

In 2014 the Moulin and Cathiard families acquired the property and undertook a sweeping programme of renovation. A new gravity-fed winery and temperature-controlled concrete fermentation vats now allow precise, parcel-by-parcel vinification. The 17.5 hectares of vines are planted to 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with an average age of thirty-five years. A further 4% of Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 2016, and expectations are high for what it will bring to future blends.

The wines show ripe plum and floral aromas, a faint smoky note of oak spice and an earthy undertone, carried on elegant tannins to a rounded finish.

Beauregard also farms organically out of regard for the environment, protecting vines and fruit through preventive measures during the wet summer months.

Bringing together the tradition of Pomerol and a spirit of innovation, Château Beauregard makes wines of both elegance and power, and offers wine lovers a genuinely compelling proposition.
