Russiz Superiore

[The Grand Cru estate of Marco Felluga, Friuli's leading name]

The family's story begins more than 150 years ago in Istria, in what is now Croatia. After the Second World War the Fellugas moved to Collio, in Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and in 1956 Marco Felluga founded the winery that bears his name. In 1967 he went on to create Russiz Superiore - Marco Felluga's Grand Cru estate - which today holds an important place in Collio.

Collio is marked by pronounced differences between day and night temperatures. Its soil is flysch, known in the Friulian dialect as ponca, formed a hundred million years ago by the erosion of limestone cliffs beneath the sea that once covered the region. Every hill has its own microclimate and its own particular soil, which makes this an ideal setting for the distinctive varieties grown here and nowhere else.

Felluga makes white wines that give pleasure in their youth and go on giving it after years in bottle. The philosophy behind them rests on sustainability and care for the environment, on the pursuit of quality, and on respect for the history and traditions of this land. The winery is now led by the sixth generation, Ilaria Felluga. Russiz Superiore, held to be Marco Felluga's Grand Cru, extends over 50 hectares and specialises in white wine.
