The Loire River is France's longest river, and a wide variety of wines are produced in its wide basin.
The Loire River flows from central France along the oak forests that support the barrel industry, past Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, the great Sauvignon Blanc regions, and then flows westward, where Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc grow. It passes through the centers of Anjou, Vouvray and Saumur before reaching the Atlantic Ocean near the wine regions of Nantes and Muscadet.
