Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 Domaine Jean-Louis Trapet

Latricières-Chambertin is a Grand Cru from the limestone vineyards on the mid-slopes of Gevrey-Chambertin, north of Chambertin. The 2018 vintage, crafted by Domaine Jean-Louis Trapet, known as a pioneer in biodynamics, showcases the warm, sunny year with abundantly ripe fruit, resulting in a concentrated wine with a velvety texture. The inherent elegance and power of the vineyard are expressed in this vintage with even richer fruit.

Tasting Notes

The wine has a deep ruby color, with consistent color right to the rim of the glass. The aroma offers rich notes of black fruits (cassis, black cherry), mocha, spice, and ripe fruit. On the palate, it is smooth, with abundant yet fine-grained tannins, and a pleasant balance of fruit sweetness and acidity. The finish is long, with warm spice and black fruit flavors. While enjoyable now due to its characteristic 2018 volume, it also has the potential to age until the mid-2030s.

Cultivation & Vinification

• Pioneered biodynamic farming methods from the early 1990s.
• In response to climate change, introduced the "Echalas" trellising system, originating from the Northern Rhône, in approximately 15% of the vineyards.
• During the early stages of fermentation, pigeage (punching down the cap) is performed to limit extraction.
• In the later stages of fermentation, switches to gentler remontage (pumping over).
• New oak percentage is adjusted between 20-50% depending on the vineyard classification.
• Latricières-Chambertin is a limestone vineyard adjacent to Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin.
