A well-balanced, elegant and refined Faugères
Located in the highlands of the Faugères Natural Heritage Site within the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, Domaine de Cébène produces wines that reflect the terroir, combining power and finesse.
Founded in 2007 by Brigitte Chevalier, who served as export manager for Château Valandraud in Bordeaux for 10 years, and her family, the company acquired small vineyards, mainly facing north, with vines between 20 and 70 years old. Located at an altitude of 300m, the company aims to exploit the exceptional terroir of its special schist formations from its 11 hectares of vineyards.
The organically cultivated terraced vineyards are surrounded by a large garrigue and oak forest in the heart of the Faugères vineyard, offering magnificent panoramic views: 45km away you can see the coastline and the deep blue sea, and to the west the Pyrenees and the majestic Mount Canigou.
One of the great uniqueness of the Cévenes terroir comes from the presence of a very deep layer of schist, which is free of other rocks and has a particularly thin layer of organic matter on the soil surface.
This special structure allows the vines to send their roots deep to absorb nutrients from the gaps between the layers of schist, a characteristic that enforces a certain level of discipline on the vines and at the same time ensures a constant supply of water to protect them from climatic fluctuations.
This is undoubtedly a sign of excellent terroir and gives Cévenes wines a true minerality.
Unusually for the Languedoc, the Cévenes vineyards are planted on north-facing slopes, which today gives them an advantage as they benefit from the purifying breezes that blow in from the forests and high mountains near the Faugères terroir.
This location allows for the production of balanced, elegant and refined wines.
