About the producer

Domaine des Soulanes

[A treasure that reflects the terroir, nurtured by the bounty of the Mediterranean]

Domaine des Seuranes was founded in 2002 in the commune of Tautevel in Maury. Its name comes from the geographical term "Sourane", which refers to a hilly area facing south to southeast. The domain is surrounded by the natural cloister of the Garrigue and is located at the foot of the rock formations of Château de Queribus, the last Cathar stronghold.

After 15 years of working closely with the owner, Pru Jean, on the vineyards and winemaking, they decided to purchase part of this property, which includes a plot of land that has been organically farmed since 1972 and grafted locally.

The vineyard covers 17 hectares, divided into four main islands of 16 plots, and is planted exclusively with Mediterranean varieties suited to the terroir and climate: Grenache (Noir, Blanc, Gris), Carignan (Noir, Blanc, Gris), Syrah and Mourvèdre.

The soil is geologically composed of metamorphic schist, sedimentary marl, clay and limestone, and the steep slopes, dry and stony soils favour healthy vine growth. The land is blessed with the dry northwesterly winds known as the Tramontane and excellent sunshine conditions, which are great advantages for the vines to thrive in.

Organic farming allows us to respect and protect the environment for future generations. Deep plowing allows the taproot to reach the subsoil and bedrock, reducing water stress, regulating yields and imparting minerality to the wine. Planting densities range from 4,000 to 5,000 vines per hectare, with yields ranging from 15 to 25 hL per hectare.

All harvesting is done by hand into small crates and sorted in the field as needed.
