Among Corton's many sub-plots, Le Rognet stands out due to its favorable east-facing location. Spanning 34 ares on a gentle slope at an altitude of 270-280m, old vines with an average age of 70 years draw nutrients from the weathered, soft limestone soil. The winemaking is handled by Bruno Clavelier, a biodynamic practitioner based in Vosne-Romanée. He meticulously works the vineyard according to the lunar cycle and bottles the wine unfined and unfiltered. The 2019 vintage, with its reduced yields due to frost and drought, resulted in a highly concentrated wine.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in color with a youthful purple rim. The aroma is a complex blend of black fruits and violet, layered with a smoky nuance characteristic of this vineyard, and hints of earth and mushroom. On the palate, a vibrant fruitiness, typical of biodynamic wines, unfolds. The tannins, derived from Le Rognet's soft limestone, are surprisingly smooth and harmonious. The acidity gracefully supports the entire structure, leading to a long finish with smoky aromas and a mineral character. While it's beginning to open up now, its true potential will emerge in 6-8 years. It possesses excellent potential for long-term aging.
