Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 Domaine Hubert Lignier

Charmes-Chambertin is a Grand Cru located on the Chambertin hillside. This vineyard, which includes the adjacent Mazoyères-Chambertin, produces a soft and sensual style of Pinot Noir from its sandy soil. The producer is Hubert Lignier, a renowned estate in Morey-Saint-Denis. Established in 1885, the current owner, Romain Lignier, converted to organic farming in 2006 and obtained certification in 2019, sourcing grapes from parcels with old vines over 80 years old. In 2019, yields were reduced due to frost and drought, resulting in an excellent vintage with both concentration and structure.

Tasting Notes

The appearance is a deep garnet color, with color extending well into the center of the glass. The aroma is a complex intertwining of blackberry, violet, and the licorice and gamey notes characteristic of Chambertin Grand Crus, subtly accompanied by a roasted aroma from the oak. The palate is smooth, with the rounded tannins typical of Charmes and the concentrated fruit flavors of 2019 expanding in layers. The acidity is clean, and the finish has a long-lasting spice and mineral flavor. While the rich fruit flavor can be enjoyed now, its true potential will be realized in 8 to 10 years. It has the potential to age for 10 to 20 years.

Viticulture and Winemaking
