Laurent Ponsot, who left the prestigious Domaine Ponsot in Gevrey-Chambertin in 2017, established a new domaine under his own name. "La Santenots" is not from the domaine's own vineyards but is a cuvée with a strong négociant character, made from carefully selected grapes and must, originating from the Meursault Charmes parcel. 2020 was an early flowering vintage with excellent concentration and acidity balance, and it is already attracting attention, with Jasper Morris giving it high marks.
Tasting Notes
The appearance is a brilliant pale yellow. The aroma is a combination of citrus peel, nutty roasted notes, brown butter, and stewed pear, with a subtle oak presence. On the palate, a crisp acidity forms the core, and a long citrus finish lingers within a smooth texture. It is enjoyable for its aromatic qualities even when young, but is expected to develop a smoother aged character in a few years.
