About the Distillery and Bottle

The name "The Glenlivet" was a symbolic designation for the entire Livet Valley, which was renowned for the quality of its whisky at the time. The distillery was one of the first in Scotland to obtain an official distilling license in 1824.
While this license acquisition was seen by some as a brave decision and by others as an act of betrayal, it ultimately allowed the distillery to establish a dominant position over other distilleries. Today, it is one of Scotland's leading distilleries, and its single malt is enjoyed worldwide.
Primarily aged in ex-bourbon casks, Glenlivet is characterized by a fresh, spring-like style with prominent citrus and floral notes. However, bottlings matured exclusively in sherry casks are only available through independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail.

About the Sherry Cask Antipodes Collection

The "Sherry Cask Antipodes" series by Gordon & MacPhail, a long-established independent bottler in Scotland. This series releases rare whiskies matured exclusively in sherry casks for an extended period, presented in wooden gift boxes.

Tasting Notes

Style: Rich and concentrated.

Nose: Initially intensely floral (dried flowers, orris concrete, tuberose, carnation). Gradually develops into chocolate, fruits (orange, mango), spices (cinnamon, ginger), and botanical elements (pipe tobacco). With aeration, various honeys like lavender, violet, heather, and linden, as well as royal jelly, sweetly envelop the whole. Further, it progressively becomes herbaceous (arnica, band-aid, tiger balm), and a magnificent saffron aroma emerges.

Palate: Clean and light. The attack, bursting with the freshness of vanilla, contrasts with the richness perceived in the nose. White flowers (lilac, lily of the valley, lily) and fresh fruits (pear, mirabelle plum, peach) truly embody the Glenlivet style. In the mid-palate, fresh fig, lime, and licorice pleasantly stimulate the taste buds. Towards the finish, notes of candied apricot, fresh walnuts, melon, and ripe mango layer upon each other.

Finish: Long and serene. The initial vanilla-laced (flan, milk tart) aftertaste is dotted with a variety of aromatic plants such as chamomile, verbena, rosemary, and sage. Gradually, the grainy texture of malted barley fills the mouth, leading to a smooth and settled aftertaste. Subtly woody (oak, gentian root) retro-nasally, notes of leather and walnut shell appear. From the empty glass, rich aromas of licorice, root vegetables, praline, and malt rise.
