Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Capitale 2018 Domaine Jean Louis Trapet

"Capita" is a unique cuvée from the Trapet family, blending small 1er Cru plots that are insufficient for single-vineyard bottling. It is an assemblage primarily of En Ergot and Corbeaux, adjacent to the Grand Cru Chapelle-Chambertin, with additional fruit from Combotte, Petite Chapelle, and parts of Clos Prieur, offering a depth characteristic of combining multiple plots. The 2018 vintage, crafted by this prestigious biodynamic estate founded in 1919, benefited from a warm and dry climate, yielding highly concentrated fruit and a powerful character derived from whole-bunch fermentation.

Tasting Notes

The appearance is a bright, clear garnet. The aroma presents cassis and dark berry fruit intertwined with nuances of peony, roasted cocoa, and spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins layered beautifully. The grip from whole-bunch fermentation and herbal complexity add richness to the flavor. The vibrant acidity tightens the fruit, leading to a long and powerful finish. This wine offers the multifaceted charm of a blend and can be enjoyed from now until the early 2030s.
