An iconic Islay single malt that vividly portrays smoky, malty, salty, and floral/herbal characteristics. This is the elegant and precise Artist Collective 7.0.
About the Distillery and Bottle
Caol Ila Distillery, founded by Hector Henderson in 1846, underwent its first reconstruction and expansion in 1879. After being acquired by Distillers Company Limited in 1927, all facilities except one maturation warehouse were demolished in 1972, and the distillery reopened with a new stillroom in 1974. Six stills can be seen through the bay window. This bottle vividly portrays the smoky, malty, salty, floral, and herbal characteristics of this iconic single malt with every sip.
About the ARTIST COLLECTIVE Collection
Bottling Edition: N°M 2012 – Katrin Bremermann
The Artist Collective series reflects the richness and diversity of Scotch malt. Featuring selected small batches from various distilleries, this series covers a wide range of styles, ages, and production regions. This year's edition (the 7th to date) features six single malts from Speyside, the Islands, and Islay, all distilled between 2012 and 2017.
Like the "Artist" series (exclusively for cask-strength single casks), the Artist Collective series adopts a new visual identity each year. This year's labels feature the work of German painter and visual artist Katrin Bremermann, whose poetic works explore universal concepts such as form, rhythm, and structure using a restricted color palette and monochrome. Viewing painting as a "sculptural" medium, Katrin Bremermann's minimalist geometric abstraction conceals a meticulous exploration of beauty behind seemingly simple compositions on paper and Plexiglas.
Tasting Notes
Profile: Elegant and precise. Ash, citrus, spice.
Nose: Precise and clear. Soot, ash, minerals, and lemon notes, along with cereal (barley) and honey. With aeration, notes of pepper, pungency (cayenne pepper), and medicinal herbs (ointment, camphor) emerge.
Palate: Clear and elegant. The mature flavor profile presents vanilla, floral notes (lily, iris), and fruit (pear), forming a rich body. Hints of herbal tea (mint, verbena) lead to a finish with slightly animalic and chalky nuances.
Finish: Long, balanced, and rounded. Initially, notes of tarmac and pipe tobacco appear, followed by delicate licorice, green aromas (barley fields), and hints of iodine. The mineral quality of graphite and pencil lead is also magnificent.
