[A unique, slightly sparkling wine born from the Basque breeze and passion]
Founded in 2014 to promote the Txakoli that has been produced by a family business for generations, the winery owns 8 hectares of vineyards surrounding the winery building. The vineyards are terraced on the south side of a gentle slope that descends toward the mouth of the Oria River, and are cultivated using trellises and arbors. This location was chosen because the gentle breezes blowing in from the Cantabrian Sea make it ideal for aging.
Located about a 20-minute drive from San Sebastian in the Basque Country, a city renowned for its gourmet cuisine, Bodega Catina produces only one type of wine. Originally run by his parents as a restaurant famous for its local olio, the couple's son Iñaki and daughter Isaac Quin opened a new restaurant with an attached winery in 2013, hoping to make the small-batch homemade wine they served there available to more people.
In 2019, it won the top prize in the Charcoal Grill Restaurant Category at the World Luxury Awards, and it is a slightly sparkling wine that has received rave reviews from Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, as well as soccer player Takefusa Kubo, who visited secretly.
