1981年は1982年の陰に隠れがちな年ですが、優れたシャトーではクラシックで長寿命なワインが生まれました。デュクリュ・ボーカイユはその代表例のひとつで、後年の試飲では「1981年メドック屈指の成功作」と評されています。40年以上の熟成を経た今、紅茶や葉巻箱、杉、トリュフ、レザーが織りなす複雑な熟成香と、溶け込んだタンニンによる優雅な味わいが魅力。鳩のローストや牛ほほ肉の赤ワイン煮込みとともに。

The 1981 vintage in Bordeaux is often overshadowed by the legendary 1982, yet top châteaux produced classic, long-lived wines. Ducru-Beaucaillou is one such example, and subsequent tastings have described it as "one of the greatest successes of the Médoc in 1981."
